Minimalism is about living an uncomplicated, simple life.
Have you heard about "less is more"? Now more and more people are using this motto as an entire lifestyle movement. More is not necessarily better when it comes to skincare too. Simple regimens that address your skin's specific needs are much more effective than combining ten unnecessary, repetitive, or potentially irritating steps.
For many of us, our extensive skincare regimens are established out of need. Whether it's acne, eczema, hyperpigmentation or premature signs of aging, most of our routines are explicitly built to fend off whatever our skin concerns may be.
A good regimen partly consists of maintenance. It's to keep what you have in check, and ensuring your good-skin streak lasts as long as possible. And for Natugee, there are three pillars of an effective routine. They are cleansing, exfoliating, and protecting (using serum and sunscreen).
First pillar: Cleansing.
Double-cleansing might sound like overkill, but if you live in a city or wear makeup daily, it's a necessity. Taking your makeup off is just the beginning; if your cleanse stops there, you leave trace amounts of bacteria, grime, and residue lurking in your pores.
A good makeup remover doesn't have to be expensive. We like to use micellar waters or oil cleanser. And then on to your second cleanse, which removes any last trace of makeup as well as general day-to-day dirt. Sure, your face may not look dirty, but the accumulation of even microscopic particles of buildup and grime can still make your skin as congested.
Gentle cleanser like Deep Cleansing Lotion is great all-rounders suitable for most skin types.
Second pillar: Exfoliation.
Your skin has a natural exfoliation cycle that it goes through every day, where dead cells slough off and fresh new ones come through, but makeup and SPF can get in the way of this, so make sure you expedite the process with an exfoliant a couple of times a week. This is where we like to use Happy Skin Mask.
Third pillar: Protection.
It takes a lot of forms — primarily, SPF and a good antioxidant. UV damage is the silent killer when it comes to your skin health, and while you do get more sun in the warmer months, you need to wear sunscreen all day, every day, regardless of the weather.
The sun's rays can even penetrate glass, so if you sit near a window or drive a lot, you'll be getting exposure without setting foot outdoors. A layer of SPF a day keeps sunburn, fine lines, and sunspots away. And it helps reduce your chance of skin cancer.
Antioxidants are your best friend when it comes to fighting the free-radical damage that pollution brings.
Free radicals are nasty little suckers that go around attacking cells in your body and causing oxidative stress. Your body is pretty good at fighting them off using antioxidants of your own, but over time, you get less good at it, and modern-day pollution is high.
Vitamin C like our Advanced Vitamin C Treatment, in addition to being a powerful antioxidant, is supremely brightening on the skin and has numerous side benefits, making it a winner all-around. You will also definitely need a hydrating moisturizer, to be worn under your sunscreen every day.
Skin cells require ample amounts of water to carry out all their metabolic functions, like combatting inflammation, regenerating, and promoting cellular turnover. Inadequate hydration compromises skin elasticity and resilience, making it look dull, wrinkly, and dry.
Use Anti-Aging Power Moisturizer to hydrate your skin.
For Natugee, we believe in minimizing the steps in your skincare routine to decrease irritation. The routine is limited to cleanser, serum, moisturizer, and SPF, and all the products are typically free of any harmful or controversial ingredients.
Reason being? People have been piling on so many different products that they've developed redness, sensitivity, and even worse — contact dermatitis.
Skin sensitivity due to an extensive routine is a valid concern. A simplified routine is more realistic to stick to. An inconsistent routine won't get the same results because skincare is an effect of what you do overtime. Think of it like working out; You won't see results if you only go to the gym once.
